A better solution to the problem of baldness is to use natural treatments. They work in exactly the same way as synthetic prescription drugs, by blocking DHT and preventing it from binding to hair follicles. However, since they contain only natural ingredients, they do not have any harmful side effects, which are commonly associated with synthetic chemicals.
The following are common herbs helpful in the treatment of hair loss or baldness:
• He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum). Also known as fo-ti, this Chinese herb has traditionally been used to reduce hair loss. It is found in many commercial preparations, or in tea and capsule form.
• Coconut. Homemade hair oil can be made with dried pieces of amla or Indian gooseberry and coconut oil. Boil coconut oil with dry amla into it. Cool it down and apply this regularly on the scalp. This acts as a hair tonic and is effective for hair loss prevention.
• Green Tea (Camellia sinensis). It is thought that catechins found in green tea may inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha reductase that converts testosterone into the androgen DHT, which causes harm to the hair follicles. It is therefore believed to be effective in preventing and treating male pattern type baldness. You should drink several cups of green tea each day or take it in capsule form so as to keep the hair follicles active and fully functioning in growing hair.
Aside from applying those herbal remedies, it is also important to take extra care of your hair by renewing your hair care practices. You need to avoid blow drying and using chemically formulated shampoos daily. Your hair and scalp can be damaged by harsh chemicals such as coloring or straightening. Even daily hair washing with hot water can damage the hair. The hair can turn brittle and natural oils easily dry up.
